Nancy Mace Posts Cryptic Message After South Carolina Primary Defeat

Rep. Nancy Mace drew fresh attention after posting a cryptic social media message following her defeat in South Carolina’s Republican gubernatorial primary. Mace finished last in the race with about 12.1% of the vote, after leaving her House seat to pursue the governor’s office.
After the loss, Mace posted an image of baked beans and wrote that while some people expected her to be eating ice cream after losing, she had “other plans.” The post appeared to reference an earlier viral meme involving a photo of Mace eating barbecue and beans, which critics had mocked online.
Mace later suggested her defeat was tied to her support for releasing Jeffrey Epstein-related files, saying she chose to stand on principle even if it hurt her election chances. Her loss came after Donald Trump backed South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, who advanced to a runoff with state Attorney General Alan Wilson.
The result marks a sharp setback for Mace, who first entered Congress in 2020 and later shifted from a more centrist Republican profile toward stronger MAGA-aligned politics. Her defeat now raises questions about her political future and whether her national profile can survive a major statewide loss.
