Five Arrested in Shooting of Indiana Judge and His Wife
Five people have been arrested and charged in connection with a violent shooting that wounded an Indiana judge and his wife at their home earlier this week, authorities announced Friday. The arrests follow an intense, multi-agency investigation into the Jan. 18 attack that left Tippecanoe County Superior Court 2 Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, injured but in stable condition.
The arrests mark a major development in a case that stunned the Lafayette, Indiana, community and raised concerns about the safety of public officials and their families. Authorities have now charged five individuals in connection with the incident, including multiple felony counts and obstruction charges.
On the afternoon of Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, police responded to a report of gunshots at a residence in the 1700 block of Mill Pond Lane in Lafayette, about 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis. Upon arrival, officers found Judge Steven Meyer suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm and his wife Kimberly with a gunshot wound to her hip. Both were transported to a local hospital, where officials confirmed they were in stable condition.
Earlier reports noted that emergency dispatch audio indicated the suspect may have knocked on the front door claiming, “We have your dog,” before opening fire through the door, immediately catching victims and neighbors off guard.
On Thursday, Jan. 23, the Lafayette Police Department announced that five suspects had been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. The arrests came after hundreds of hours of investigative work by local, state, and federal authorities.
The Arrested Individuals
Authorities identified the five people detained:
-
Raylen Ferguson, 38, of Lexington, Kentucky
-
Thomas Moss, 43, of Lafayette, Indiana
-
Blake Smith, 32, of Lafayette, Indiana
-
Amanda Mislap, 45, of Lafayette, Indiana
-
Zenada Greer, 61, of Lexington, Kentucky
Three of the suspects — Ferguson, Moss, and Smith — are facing a range of serious charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated battery, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, battery by means of a deadly weapon, and intimidation with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors also added gang and firearm enhancements to several of the charges.
The other two suspects — Mislap and Greer — were charged with offenses such as obstruction of justice, assisting a criminal, and bribery, authorities said.
Law Enforcement Response
The investigation into the shooting quickly became a priority for multiple law enforcement agencies. Local police worked in coordination with the FBI, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the West Lafayette Police Department, and the Indiana State Police to build the case that led to these arrests.
Investigators recovered shell casings and other evidence from the scene and conducted a broad outreach that included reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing potential witnesses. Officials have said they will continue efforts to piece together motive and whether any additional suspects may be involved.
