La Niña Conditions May Return
Breaking Update
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned that La Niña conditions may re-emerge between September and November 2025, with a likelihood of around 55–60%. While 2025 has so far been classified as ENSO-neutral (neither El Niño nor La Niña), the Pacific Ocean is showing signs of cooling that could shift the climate system into a La Niña phase.
Even so, scientists emphasize that global warming continues to raise average temperatures worldwide — meaning that even with La Niña’s cooling influence, much of the planet will remain hotter than historic averages.
